Sexually transmitted diseases, more commonly referred to as STDs, are commonplace in society, especially for those ages 15-24. According to the American Sexual Health Association, one in two sexually active people will contract an STD by the time they turn 25. It’s estimated that 20 million new STDs occur annually, with over half of the cases reported to be in people aged 18-30. Thanks to our online doctor service, getting tested and treated for an STD has never been easier or more discrete.
We treat the following STDs:
A bacteria called chlamydia trachomatis causes this particular STD to develop, and it can infect both men and women. Women may get this STD in the cervix, rectum or throat while men way get it in the urethra, rectum or throat. Chlamydia is more common in young people, especially women, and it doesn’t typically cause any symptoms. If symptoms do occur, they likely won’t appear until several weeks after being infected. Examples of symptoms in women include pain during sex, a burning sensation while urinating or abnormal vaginal discharge. Symptoms in men include discharge from the penis, a burning sensation when urinating, burning and itching around the opening of the penis or pain and swelling in the testicles.
Gonorrhea is another common STD that can infect the genital tract and other areas of the body. It most often affects the urethra, rectum or throat. Like chlamydia, gonorrhea also may not cause any symptoms. If symptoms do occur, they may include painful urination, pus-like discharge from the top of the penis, painful intercourse, vaginal bleeding between periods, increased vaginal discharge and abdominal or pelvic pain.
Trichomonas, or “trich” is a very common STD caused by an infection with a protozoan parasite called Trichomonas vaginalis. Symptoms vary, but about 70 percent of people cannot tell that they have been infected. Symptoms include itching or burning inside of the penis, discomfort when urinating, discharge from the vagina or discharge from the penis.
Herpes is caused by herpes simplex virus, and it is a long-term condition. Many people may not be aware that they are carrying herpes, as symptoms can be minimal. Symptoms include pain, itching, vaginal discharge, high fever, swollen lymph nodes, red blisters on the skin, or cold sores around the mouth.
